Beach Clean

A small intrepid group of Sark Watchers braved the winter weather to carry out the planned Dixcart Beach Clean last Saturday.

Meeting at the top of the Meadow, it was a muddy and wet walk to the beach but the time was well spent spotting and picking up litter on the way. The usual haul of cans and bottles were found with Richard spending a lot of time paddling down the stream, taking out pieces of plastic as he went.

On the way through the woods, Richard pointed out what must be one of the oldest and most beautiful trees on Sark.

At the beach the whole group was astonished at the number of plastic bottles found, some blown into gaps between rocks, with over a dozen found along with smaller pieces of plastic, a plastic tray and various bits of rope.

After a windswept photo at the bottom of the steps, it was a steady walk to Stocks Hotel who kindly let us leave our litter there. Then it was inside for a well-earned hot chocolate and biscuits!
