Charging policy

1         Introduction

  1. All education during school hours is free.

2         Voluntary contributions

2.1         When organising school trips or visits to enrich the curriculum and the educational experience of the children, if insufficient funds have been raised for the trip the school may ask parents / carers  to contribute to the cost. All contributions are voluntary, however, if we do not receive sufficient voluntary contributions, we may be forced to cancel a trip. If a trip goes ahead, it may include children whose parents have not paid any contribution. We do not treat these children differently from any others.

2.2         If a parent/carer wishes their child to take part in a school trip or event, but is unable to make any voluntary contribution asked for, we may allow the child to participate in the trip or activity. Sometimes the school pays additional costs in order to support the visit, by giving financial help to individual families. Parents have a right to know how each trip is funded. The school provides this information on request.

2.3         The following is a list of additional activities, organised by the school, which may require voluntary contributions from parents. These activities include extra-curricular activities. This list is not exhaustive:

  • sporting activities which require transport expenses to and around Guernsey
  • visits to or by a theatre company;
  • curriculum related visits.
  • musical events.
  • Some enrichment activities

3         Residential visits

3.1         If the school organises a residential visit in school time, or mainly in school time, which is to provide education directly related to the curriculum, we ask for a voluntary contribution towards the cost of  the education element of the visit and a compulsory contribution to cover the costs of board and lodging and travel.  If we do not receive sufficient funds from parents to cover the costs of the visit, then  it cannot take place, unless funding comes from another source.

7         Monitoring and review

7.1         This policy is monitored by the Education Committee, and will be reviewed in two years, or earlier if necessary.
