January Beach Clean

The first event of 2017 was a beach clean as part of the Channel Islands Beach Clean on Saturday 14th January. Although cold, it was a beautiful sunny day for a trip to Dixcart Beach armed with gloves and plastic bags.

A large group assembled at the top of the meadow and walked down to the beach in search of litter only to be a little disappointed! It was a real challenge to find any litter although Alfie proved to be a champion at finding what little there was. The whole beach was searched, including the caves where the most interesting find was parts of a bike! In total two large polystyrene blocks, eight plastic bottles and the bike parts were our main finds, totalling about 5kgs and two part-filled bin bags.

We finished off with hot chocolate, coffee and biscuits on the beach [well done to Katie and Joyce for great organisation] before some set off for home and others continued to enjoy the lovely weather and time on the beach.

Who enjoyed the afternoon the most? Possibly the three dogs who joined us, particularly puppy Stanley who delighted in running off with Finn's socks and shoes!
