Headteacher’s Welcome

Welcome to the website for our unique island school. Sark School is a friendly place with a happy, family atmosphere providing education curently for all the island’s children from the age of 4, when they enter reception, to the age of 16 when they leave having completed their GCSEs.

Sark is a beautiful island, just 3½ miles long by 1½ miles wide with outstanding coastline and a rich variety of flora and fauna. Being car free it has unmade roads, numerous footpaths, cliffs, beaches and woods, an ideal place to explore on foot or by bicycle. Frequently lessons are taken out of the classroom, especially so every Wednesday when it is Forest School’s day for Class 1.

Being part of a small community, the children and school are an important part of daily life on the island and take part in all the key events throughout the year.

At the end of this academic year, in July 2018, the current Headteacher will leave after 10 years in post. This will herald a number of changes at the school, both in the teaching staff and organisation as the island considers making chnages in the light of a review into education on Sark completed in autumn 2017. The provision of GCSE education off-island is one of the areas being debated and decisions will be made following the appointment of the new Head of School and agreements in Chief Pleas in the spring.

Meanwhile we hope you enjoy exploring our website and learning more about our wonderful school and unique island home.
